Covid-19 Pandemic Interventions: Food Support to Daily wages/ unorganized worker’s families

India Covid Response Fund - Save Families From Covid-19 :

The Coronavirus pandemic has caused devastation across the globe. Besides the tragic toll on human life, with countries shutting their borders and quarantines, economies have taken a huge hit. The tragedy has just begun to unfold in India and the job losses are mounting, especially among the daily wage workers. Experts say the effect on this group will be catastrophic.

Coronavirus is an international disaster on the scale of the Second World War. We have launched this campaign as an emergency response - to help provide a safety net to casual labour families. We aim to directly support these families by providing a minimum wage in groceries and cash hopefully with your support till the virus abates and they are in employment again.

These unemployed individuals and families have been duly verified by The Bridge Vellore. The whole world is suffering - and is trying to cope with huge losses. But those without any job security or savings are the most vulnerable. Give generously to those hardest hit by COVID-19.

Support for the families facing lockdown hunger in Vellore, Tamilnadu. Every rupee counts to beat Corona. Even that will be a drop in the ocean to the amount required for India’s poor, who have been hit the hardest, to recover from the crisis.

So let us at least try and take care of those who have been left in the lurch and can’t help themselves right now – the daily wagers, the migrant workers, unorganised workers and poor communities without access to basic essentials. While the lockdown continues and coronavirus takes its toll on our health and our everyday lives, let us contribute whatever we can to win this extraordinary battle. And with the generosity of you we can do it faster.

Objectives:

To reduce the pandemic crisis among daily wages/ unorganised worker’s families. To eradicate the stigma of Covid-19 among the communities. To promote alternate livelihood for the Daily wages workers. To eradicate the positive cases families discrimination among the community during this Covid 19 crisis.

Present status of the problem:

People after multiple days of lockdown, started to move around. The unorganised workers have started to look for the employment opportunities. But in reality, hardly 10 percent of the workers are having a few days’ work in a week's time. Another 90 percent of the unorganised workers have no jobs. All the government dry ration things are over and now they have started to borrow from money lenders to manage the food expenses of the family. The young people who were working in private companies in nearby districts are now unemployed as the companies have not been running or running with minimum employees. This is the situation in which this proposal was developed to assist these unorganised workers families during this covid-19 crisis.

Dry Ration Distribution for the ultra poor families (150 families in each area):

In order to support the family of daily wages/unorganised workers, dry ration kits will be purchased and will be distributed for 150 families in each block. Thus 22 blocks will be distributed covering 3300 families. Initially we have selected 600 families for immediate relief materials.

Following are the items will be distributed to each family;

• Rice – 10 kgs

• Edible oil – 1 kg

• Salt – 1 kg

• Tea powder – 250 grm

• Sugar – 2kg

• Dhall - 2 kg

• Face mask – 1 no

• Sanitizer - 100 ml

•Napkin - 1 Nos

Livelihood support to selected youth:

In each block 5 youngsters are identified. These youngsters are jobless due to the corona crisis. Hence, Each youth will be given the assistance of Rs.5000 and will be linked to the technical training and entrepreneurial training institute. These youngsters will learn alternative livelihood options and will support the suffering family economically.

Volunteers Engagement in each blocks:

In each Block, An educated volunteer will be selected and appointed to address the immediate need of the community. He will be trained to handle the emergency cases and covid 19 patient treatment. As soon as he receives some emergency condition, he will inform the health department and 108. He will also assist all project activities in the field in each block.
